Jim Porter is a Consulting Engineer with 39 years operational, project management and consulting experience. He holds a BSc Hons Mining (Leeds University) and completed the Management Development Program (UNISA) and an Advanced Management Program (INSEAD, France).Jim commenced his career at AngloGold Ashanti, where he held a number of senior management positions including Production Manager, Senior Project Manager and Mine Manager. During his time with AngloGold Ashanti, Jim ran several large shaft sinking projects, oversaw numerous technology and mechanisation initiatives as well as establishing a sound safety and production record.In 1997 Jim started a mining technology focused services company MineRP Solutions (GMSI) as Managing Director. He led corporate outsourcing contracts and developed the strategy for the internationalisation and growth of the Group mining business. After a spell heading the Consulting group at TWP Projects, in 2011 Jim started his own consulting company; Jim Porter Mining Consulting (Pty) Ltd (JPMC). He is also a Visiting Adjunct Professor for the Centre of Mechanised Mining Systems at Wits University, Chairman of Tarrill Trading (a gold exploration and mining company in Zimbabwe), COO of Auroch Minerals NL (An Australian listed company) as well as a Past President of the Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.

Jayson’s working career has been focused on the mining industry for the past 8 years, with experience as a mining consultant, as an onsite supervisor and as a project manager. The majority of his consulting work has been in the underground hard-rock mining environment, which mainly involved mining methodology and selection, mine design and optimisation, Life Of Mine scheduling and planning, financial modelling, analysis and project risk assessment. Jayson was promoted to the position of General Manager for JPMC in December 2015. His main goals are to grow JPMC through delivering exceptional projects and ensuring companywide quality, whist supporting the team with his knowledge, experience of various small-scale and large-scale mining operations to deliver mining related projects. Jayson enjoys in the team at JPMC which gives him the variety of engineering work to be able to utilise his problem solving and leadership skills on numerous types of mining, engineering and processing projects.

PG’s journey through the Coal Mining Industry started in 1983, as a Learner Mine Official and following a stringent career development plan, advanced to Senior Projects Engineer in the Sasol Mining Projects and Research Services Department where he did pioneering research work on continuous miner cutting and distinguished himself as a specialist in cutter drum design. At Sasol Mining, he was transferred to the Procurement and Sourcing Management team on a special project to streamline the Sasol Value Management Chain, where he became Manager of Strategic Sourcing. In 2011 PG started at Jim Porter Mining Consulting as Senior Mining Consultant, specialising in Coal Mining operations and process optimisation, and in addition, lectures post graduate students as Visiting Fellow of the Centre for Mechanised Mining Systems at Wits University. PG has been involved in a number of projects through JPMC, including amongst others, a full assessment of all the production sections at all the Sasol Mining shafts to evaluate their operational difficulties and limitations and to develop mitigating solutions for each.

Graeme graduated from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST) in 1975 with a BSc (Chemistry) and has over 40 years’ international experience in the mining industry, with over half this time has been spent in plant design and construction. He is a Fellow of the South African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (FSAIMM) and was a Senior Process Consultant and Managing Director of Outsourced Plant Solutions (Pty) Ltd – the plant operating component of TWP/Basil Read. His background covers the evaluation of deposits, plant audits, studies and the detailed design of plants for the beneficiation of many minerals, with particular emphasis on Refractory and Non-Refractory Gold plants globally. Comminution, DMS, Gravity Concentration, Flotation, solid liquid separation, fine grinding and sulphide oxidation form part of this experience.

Hakan Urcan is a Geotechnical Engineer with over 25 years experience in Africa (South Africa, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Zambia, DRC and Ghana), Australasia, South America (Peru,Mexico and Brazil) and International (Turkey, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Kyrgyzstan and Mongolia) Hakan is a highly accomplished and results driven mining engineer with extensive experience in mining rock mechanics and geotechnical engineering at both consulting and operational levels. Proven track record in mining method optimisation in international projects up to multi-billion dollars undertaken globally. Diverse commodity expertise including Gold, Platinum, Copper, Molybdenum, Nickel, Manganese, Uranium and Iron ore. Demonstrated competency to successfully assimilate complex problems with multiple dependencies that delivers technically viable and commercially feasible solutions with an “end to end” approach.

After graduating from Bulawayo Technical College, Sands worked for Nchanga Consolidated Copper Mines in Zambia as a draughtswoman in the planning department. From there she went on to work as an accountant for a company called Bancroft Transport Ltd in Chililabombwe Zambia. She then moved to Oranjemund in Namibia where she again worked as a draughtswoman for the Survey department of De Beers Consolidated Diamond Mines Pty Ltd for 3 years. Her next move was to Welkom Mine where she worked for the Survey department as a sampling clerk and data capturer. This led her to her next place of work which was Infogold where she worked on the PROMIS team and went around to all the mines in Welkom teaching people how to use the PROMIS mining package. She then met and married Jim Porter and had two daughters….. Whilst she spent all her time being a stay at home mum, she was involved with a lot of charity work – working with Alzheimer’s patients in Old age homes and also did caregiving and worked as a fund raiser for Hospice in Welkom. Much of her passion was in teaching and spending time with handicapped children. Eventually when her children were in boarding school in Potchefstroom she took a permanent job with Thistle QA a quality control laboratory as an accountant and worked for them for 7 years. She left wanting to be a stay at home granny, but was swept along with her husband in the company of JPMC where she did the accounting and the payroll. She has handed the baton over to someone to do the accounting and still remains as the Payroll master to date.

Lisa Tolley is an actuarial statistical analyst with 4 years of related experience within the Research and Development department within the insurance industry. Her studies commenced at the University of Pretoria where she achieved a BSc. Actuarial/ Mathematical and Statistical Sciences degree, furthering her studies at UNISA in obtaining a Post Graduate Certificate in Education/ B.Ed. (FET with specialisation in mathematics) which contributed to her 4 years of teaching experience. Since September 2015, Lisa aims to apply her skillsets in statistical analysis and database management to embrace the broad spectrum of fields within the mining industry.

As the daughter of Jim Porter she has been involved and influenced by the mining industry in Africa. With her understanding of the lifestyle and strain involved, Jenna helps to coordinate Jim’s highly sort after profile by managing commitments at multiple learning institutions and universities, various global mining institutions and their international requirements, as well as his significant consultancy practice. She holds a Degree in the Health Sector and has completed various courses in marketing, business management and accounting and enjoys lecturing when time allows for it.

Mark Holton is an associate of JPMC and has broad experience in mining, civil, structural, mechanical, systems and geotechnical engineering. He has specialized in the design and development of business processes and software solutions for improving the mining value chain at various levels. Mark has developed simulation, optimisation, system mapping and geological mining planning software solutions for the mining industry. He co-founded a technology company (now called MineRP) with Anglo American to market solutions and to address the technical computing needs of group’s gold and platinum mines. He has a BSc, MSc, GDE and is currently completing a PhD with the Wits University Centre for Mechanised Mining Systems.

Gordon has more than 35 years’ experience in exploration and mining geology in multiple jurisdictions and commodities, and includes both surface and underground mining geology experience. His main areas of expertise are in the integration of diverse information sets in the economic interpretation of ore and industrial mineral deposits. He has taught a range of geological courses at undergrad and postgrad level. He is a “Competent Person” as envisaged by the SAMREC Code and is qualified to report under the SAMREC Code, which has reciprocity with the JORC and other reporting codes.

Mike holds an Ordinary National Diploma in Technology OND in Engineering and a BSc Mining Engineering Hons degree from Cardiff, University of Wales he has previously worked with Anglo American Gold Division he is the holder of both SA Mine Managers Certificate of Competency No 4169 and Mine Overseers Certificate of Competency No 11158 Mike has 8 years’ experience in deep level narrow vein production in gold mining and 15 years Experience as a project manager in business consulting in the mining environment followed by 5 years as General manager of a Johannesburg based geological consulting business. Recently Mike has returned to operational consulting as an associate of JPMC. Mike also sits on the Boards of ATEC-3D in the UK and is developing ATEC-3D SA UAV Ariel Survey Organizations With a strong mining background, Mike has more than 30 years’ experience in general management and management consulting across various mining related businesses. His main areas of expertise lie within the mining industry where he has been involved in managing numerous project executions for business improvement projects, systems implementation, productivity improvement and BPR projects. Mike has managed large mining operations and an exploration consulting business, which makes Mike a well-rounded manager and team player. Mike has also played supporting roles in project development of REE, antimony and phosphate projects.

Mike Grummitt is a Mining Engineer with 39 years operational, technical, project and consulting experience and holds an Associateship of the Camborne School of Mines (ACSM). Mike commenced his career at the Mufulira Division of Roan Consolidated Mines Ltd  in Zambia in 1976 and moved to South Africa with Union Corporation Ltd in 1981. He started at Grootvlei Gold Mine in Springs, then Technical Services in Head Office in Johannesburg, and onto Impala Platinum in Rustenburg in production roles at Wildebeest North and Bafokeng North mines.  He joined Haggie rand Limited in 1984 as a Technical Services Engineer in their Mine Winding Rope Division and later went on to head their Zambian steel wire rope manufacturing business in Kitwe in the early 1990s. He also spent a total of 13 years in Botswana with BCL Limited in various roles from Shift Boss to Technical Manager (Mining).  Subsequent to BCL, he has worked for African Barrick Gold (now Acacia Mining PLC) at Bulyanhulu, Tanzania as Technical Services Manager and Technical Services Project Manager, and has also worked as a Senior Mining Engineer in the Mining Section of Engineering Group TWP in Johannesburg.

Fernando has over 39 years’ experience in the Mining Industry of which 27 years of Mine Management experience, 17 of Conventional hardrock mining, 12 years of Trackless Mining Operations, 5 years of Opencast Mining and Project Management experience. After graduating as a Mining Engineer in 1987 from the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa, Fernando gained extensive experience on AngloGold Ashanti, Harmony Gold, Anglo Platinum and Great Basin Gold operations in South Africa. During this time he worked extensively in gold and platinum shallow, medium and ultra-deep underground hardrock conventional and trackless mining operations in South Africa. Fernando is currently employed as an Associate Mining Engineer with JPMC International Limited on a gold project in Goias, Brazil. Fernando has also gained Mining Engineering Consulting experience with Sound Mining Solutions Pty Ltd responsible for Feasibility Studies, Mine Design and Mining Layouts, SAMREC codes and ECSA. Fernando has experience of Mining Consulting work in Yamana Gold, Brasil and worked as the General Manager for AAC Mining Executors India at Hindustan Zinc Limited. This was a development and sub-level stoping underground and opencast operation in Northern India.  More recently he worked as the Mining Manager at Kamoto Copper Company in Kolwezi in the DRC. He also gained knowledge as a Mining Contractor for JIC Mining Services and Shaft Sinkers SA where he worked in chrome, manganese and platinum operations as well as shaft sinking and shaft construction work. Fernando is a Registered Professional Engineer with ECSA, a Fellow of SAIMM, member of AMMSA and holder of Mine Managers Certificate of Competency and a MDP from Unisa South Africa

Gayle has been practicing as a Technical/Project Administrator/Reviewer since 2008. In total, she has more than 30 years as a Mine Survey and Geological Draughtsperson with Desktop Graphics training, office administration experience. Her qualifications and multi-skills levels have been to her advantage having worked in the Engineering and Mining Consulting industry. Importantly, she has the knowledge and understanding of mining and engineering terminology in preparing reports, studies, proposals, documents and schematic diagrams of a high standard. She also offers support and assistance to the team in MS Office products, software as required. She qualified as a Mining/Geological/Survey Draughtsperson in the 1970s and attended many courses and applies her experience, skills and knowledge gained in her current technical administration roles.

Jilleen Payne (neé Brokensha) completed an undergraduate degree in Geology and Geography and Environmental Management at the Rand Afrikaans University in 2000 and continued with and honours degree in Geology in 2001. Jilleen went on to apply her degree within the field of Geographic Information Systems. She worked for various consultancies and ended up moving to Dubai for a year to pursue a position there in a global mapping company. Returning to South Africa, Jilleen took up a role at BHP Billiton and worked extensively throughout Africa on their exploration team. She later joined a major consultancy whereafter she started her own business, South GIS. Jilleen currently consults from her home in the Northern Cape and works for local and international companies. Jilleen has experience in report and presentation maps, large georeferencing projects, sourcing data, satellite imagery, geochemical database management and GIS training.
